 Hello! My name is Dakota Amaral I am 18 years old studying Elementary Education with a concentration on Special Education. I am a nanny for a beautiful 9 year old girl who has cerebral palsy- non verbal and non mobile. She is one of the happiest and joyful girls I have truly ever met and inspires me everyday. I enjoy going on shopping sprees with my mom or best friends, getting coffee and going on car rides with no destinations listening to country music. I am an aunt of an almost two year old nephew and he's the absolute light of my life and I don't know where I would be without him. My boyfriend and I love spending hours at the beach from sunrise to sunset with not a thought in mind but making sure we received our tan. I am highly motivated to make myself and my family proud and hope that one day I achieve my goal of becoming a second grade teacher or a one on one with a student who has disabilities; I haven't decided which one.

Privilege Power and Difference by Alan Johnson Quotes In the short book titled Privilege Power and Difference by Alan Johnson he solely focuses on the topic of surrounding issues in our society relating to gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and social class. He educates his readers on what each topic is about and how it is a problem in our world, and that we need to fix the problem in order to stop it from going on to the next generation. Reflection on the reading and two videos:   Reading through the Four I's of Oppression- Ideological, internalized, interpersonal, and institutional, illustrate how systematic injustices persist and reinforce each other. Ideological oppression in a stance from societal believes that justify discrimination, which then lead to shaping how people perceive value and power. Internalized oppression occurs when individuals absorb these beliefs, which then lead to feelings of inferiority of superiority. Moving onto the third one, interpersonal oppression manifests in everyday interactions. For example, micro aggressions to violence while institutional oppression is embedded in policies. Kimberle Crenshaw's concept of intersectionality emphasizes that people with multiple marginalized identities, such as a black woman, face more discrimination that is often overlooked.  Reading- Literacy with an Attitude Author: Patrick Finn Argument:  Finn argues that the American education system perpetuates social inequality by providing different kinds of literacy to different social classes. He explains that the elite receive empowering education suggested them with powerful literacy. This gives them the ability to think critically, engage in intellectual discourse and attain position of power. On the other hand, working class students receive domesticating education, which only grants functional literacy preparing them for roles in the workforce rather than leadership in society. Finn highlights mechanisms that reinforce this cycle such as oppositional identity where working class students reject school values because they see them as an extension of an oppressive system.
